The Waste Expo Australia is covering numerous topics across two days in Melbourne from October 23-24, including discussions on policy reform.
Leading off day two of the Waste Summit, will be a morning policy plenary covering topics on Victoria’s new environmental laws, a long term strategy for NSW and a regulatory reform with South Australia waste and recycling sector.
Speakers include Dr Cathy Wilkinson, chief executive officer EPA Victoria, Dr Kar Mei Tang, acting executive director NSW EPA and Steven Sergi, manager regulatory reform projects SA EPA, who will outline the regulatory approaches needed to reduce waste.
Other discussions on day two include:
NSW return and earn: towards 3 billion collections – James Dorney, the chief executive officer of TOMRA Cleanaway, will provide insights regarding the significant development and investment undertaken, an overview of the achievements to date and further opportunities for improvement and optimisation. The session will provide attendees with an understanding of the best method to create a successful collection scheme and the opportunities that can be implemented to further your project.
Understanding the challenges facing modern landfill – Daniel Fyfe, director of the Australian Landfill Owners Association, will provide a summary of some key challenges facing landfills in current times. Some of the challenges include PFAS management, buffer constraints, community engagement and political correctness.
Partnership panel: towards a circular economy – Leading industry speakers will discuss working towards a circular economy. Attendees can find out how governments, industries and communities must work cooperatively to avoid waste, improve resource recovery and the use of recycled materials, increase material flows and improve information enabling innovation, investment and informed customer decisions.
